Executive Director Suzanne Becker to Retire
Feed My People's Executive Director, Suzanne Becker, will be retiring. She will officially step down...
We hear frequently from people struggling to put food on the table for their families. Imagine how hard it is this time of year especially to not be able to gather with loved ones and celebrate over a meal because prices are too high at the grocery store.
Adrienne, a guest at one of our recent Pop-Up events shared, "I have to take an extra shift at work, which means less time with my kids. It's been harder to get what they need. My husband and I will skip meals so the kids get what they need nutritionally. Food (from the Pop-Up) helps a lot. We are eternally grateful for the help."
Every $1 given to Feed My People goes towards helping families access the food they need. Consider making an even bigger impact by donating on Giving Tuesday, November 29, when all gifts will be matched 2:1 thanks to the generosity of Thrivent. Mark your calendars on November 29 for this one-day matching opportunity and donate here.
Our mission is to work towards ending hunger in west central Wisconsin, and as part of that goal, we rescue over seven million pounds of food each year. This is good food that might otherwise be thrown away. We also purchase fresh produce, dairy, meat, and more through our network of national food banks, growers, and manufacturers. It's then redistributed to nearly 65,000 food-insecure children, seniors, and working families who may not know where their next meal is coming from. To reach as many people in our service area as possible, we develop and fund targeted programming, and partner with over 250 hunger-relief partner organizations like food pantries and student grocery sites.
With high grocery and transportation costs, however, we are seeing longer lines at our pop-up grocery distribution events and our partner sites. We're regularly serving double the number of families as compared to a year ago, many for the first time. We are directing more resources to our Childhood Hunger programs to address an exponential increase in kids struggling.
We are working hard every day to keep sourcing and purchasing nutritious food items at a much higher cost to meet the demand, but it is harder than ever because we are experiencing a significant decrease in food donations since rising costs are being felt across industries. It is only due to the continued generous support of our community that we are able to keep serving our neighbors in need.
Thrivent's donation page for Feed My People will be open November 22-29 for comments and every post will generate an extra $1 from Thrivent up to $500. Additionally, if we reach 250 individual donor gifts on Giving Tuesday, Thrivent will unlock an additional $5000 for Feed My People!
All donations in support of this fundraiser will be administered by Thrivent Charitable Impact and Investing(R). Thrivent will also donate $1 per photo or message posted on this page between 11/22/22 and 11/29/22 up to a $500 to this organization. Thrivent will pay up to $300,000 in online processing fees per calendar year for personal donations made through Thrivent's online giving platform.
