Operation Picnic is Fighting Summer Hunger

Feed My People Food Bank is raising funds through its fifth annual "Operation Picnic" summer campaign to provide food to those facing hunger in West Central Wisconsin. Thanks to generous matching sponsors, every dollar raised now through July 19, up to $25,000, will be matched to help reach our goal of 100,000 meals funded.

Summer is a challenging time of the year for many local families. With school no longer taking care of at least one daily meal, that gap causes strain on budgets already stretched thin by the high cost of living. Operation Picnic provides an opportunity to fund extra summer pop-up grocery distributions and other programs reaching kids, families, and individuals facing hunger this summer.

As a part of Operation Picnic, a special food packing event will be held on Tuesday, July 16 at the food bank. Over 50 volunteers will come together throughout the morning and afternoon to assemble bags of food to be distributed at pop-up events, backpack programs, community food pantries, meal sites, and more. Additional volunteer slots are available to anyone from 1:15-3:15 pm through online registration.

A special produce pop-up distribution is also occurring at the food bank on July 16. Fresh produce ranging from watermelons to tomatoes will be available to anyone in need from 10 - 11:30 am. Volunteers are needed to help distribute food.

To donate or volunteer for Operation Picnic, please go to give.fmpfoodbank.org/OperationPicnic. Every dollar up to $25,000 will be matched by our generous sponsors so this is a chance to double the impact of every gift. This limited-time opportunity ends July 19.

Four local businesses have joined together to be Operation Picnic matching sponsors, including the Picnic Champion ($10,000), Markquart Motors. Picnic Partner sponsors ($5,000) include Bush Brothers & Company, Royal Credit Union, and Scheels.
